Who We Are

Sustainabylt Pty Ltd is a privately owned commercial construction company specialising in complex refurbishments, structural works, remediation and associated civil works.

Established in 2007 and backed by three generations of building experience, Sustainabylt has developed a reputation for delivering technically challenging projects across North East Victoria and Southern New South Wales, with completed works extending to Greater Melbourne, the Illawarra and South Coast, and Central Queensland.

We specialise in construction environments where experience matters. Occupied buildings, operational facilities, restricted access, unforeseen site conditions and complex stakeholder requirements demand careful planning, sound judgement and capable people.

Our approach is straightforward. Understand the project, plan the work, manage the risks and deliver what we promise.

Built on Experience

Construction has been part of our family for three generations.

From our origins in family building and trade contracting, Sustainabylt has evolved into a commercial contractor with the experience, resources and management systems to deliver complex projects across multiple sectors.

Our portfolio includes local government and community infrastructure, education and early learning facilities, commercial and retail developments, structural upgrades, building refurbishments and associated civil works.

We have extensive experience working within occupied and operational environments, where construction must be carefully coordinated around essential services, public access, existing operations and multiple stakeholder groups.

These projects require more than a conventional construction programme. They demand practical construction methodology, clear communication, disciplined site management and the ability to respond decisively when circumstances change.

We bring that experience to every project, regardless of its size or location.

Commercial Capability. Professional Systems.

Sustainabylt operates under a Triple ISO Certified Integrated Management System incorporating:

  • ISO 9001 – Quality Management
  • ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
  • ISO 45001 – Occupational Health and Safety Management

Our independently certified management systems were implemented a number of years ago and have been maintained ever since. These systems underpin how we plan, procure, manage and deliver our projects.

Our commercial capability extends across estimating, procurement, contract administration, programme management, cost control, quality assurance, safety, environmental management and project close-out.

As Principal Contractor, Sustainabylt combines directly employed tradespeople with an established network of specialist subcontractors, supported by experienced construction management and structured project controls.

Our subcontractors are selected and managed through formal prequalification, contractual and performance management processes.

Importantly, our leadership remains actively involved in delivery. Clients deal with experienced construction professionals who understand the work, know the site and have the authority to make decisions.

This approach combines the governance and commercial discipline expected of major contractors with the responsiveness and accountability of a privately owned business.

Complex Projects. Practical Solutions.

Some of our most successful projects have been delivered in environments where conventional construction approaches are not enough.

Occupied public buildings, operational facilities, staged refurbishments, structural modifications, restricted access and latent site conditions require careful planning and the ability to adapt.

We understand the importance of maintaining business continuity, managing public and worker safety, coordinating specialist trades and keeping clients informed as works progress.

Our experience extends to regional and remote project delivery, where logistics, labour availability, weather conditions and access to specialist resources can have a significant impact on programme and cost.

These challenges are addressed through early planning, practical construction methodology, sound commercial management and direct accountability.

We don’t believe every problem needs a complicated solution. We believe it needs the right solution, properly considered and professionally delivered.

Recognised for Quality

Sustainabylt’s work has been recognised through multiple Master Builders Association and Housing Industry Association awards throughout our history.

These include the Master Builders Association Murray Division Award for Best Commercial Project Under $5 Million, recognising our delivery of the Wodonga Homestead Early Learning Centre.

Our reputation is built on the quality of our completed projects, the relationships we maintain and our willingness to take responsibility throughout construction and beyond practical completion.

We value repeat business, long-term relationships and the confidence clients place in our people.

Leadership Grounded in Experience

Managing Director Alex Stravakos represents the third generation of his family’s involvement in the construction industry.

Beginning his career as an apprentice carpenter in the family business, Alex subsequently qualified in roof plumbing and progressed through site supervision, project management and registered-builder responsibilities.

With almost 30 years of construction experience, his background spans commercial building, structural works, refurbishment, civil infrastructure, complex construction environments and regional project delivery.

Alex remains actively involved in construction operations, bringing practical trade knowledge and commercial experience to project planning, technical decisions, contractual matters and on-site challenges.

His approach reflects a simple principle: those responsible for delivering a project should understand the work and remain accountable for the outcome.

Beyond Construction

Outside the construction industry, Alex and his partner Tamara operate a commercial cow–calf enterprise in the remote Snowy Mountains.

Managing a working agricultural property in remote Australia provides a firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by regional communities and businesses.

Distance, difficult conditions, limited resources and the availability of specialist support all demand preparation, resourcefulness and practical decision-making.

When assistance can be hours or days away, problems cannot always be passed on to someone else. They need to be understood and resolved.

That experience reinforces the same values Alex brings to Sustainabylt: preparation, resilience, personal responsibility and a practical approach to getting the job done.

Alex has also served with the Country Fire Authority for more than two decades and holds the rank of First Lieutenant.

His involvement in brigade leadership and major bushfire operations has developed extensive experience in risk management, operational planning, teamwork and decision-making under pressure.

These experiences, both within and outside construction, continue to influence Sustainabylt’s leadership, culture and approach to project delivery.

Our Commitment

We believe successful construction is built on trust, capable people, sound planning and clear communication.

Our clients expect us to understand their requirements, manage risk, make informed decisions and deliver quality outcomes.

We take those responsibilities seriously.

We build relationships, honour commitments and stand behind our work.

Whether delivering a complex commercial refurbishment, a regional community facility or a technically demanding structural project, our commitment remains the same.

Plan thoroughly. Communicate openly. Deliver professionally.

Three generations of builders. Professional systems. Practical leadership. Trusted project delivery.

Our People

Behind every Sustainabylt project is a team with a broad mix of construction experience, technical knowledge and practical skills. From project planning and commercial management through to site delivery and compliance, our people share a straightforward approach: do the job properly, work together and stand behind what we deliver.

  • Alex

    Managing Director

A third-generation builder with over 30 years in construction, Alex has worked across the tools, project management and business leadership. Holding an Advanced Diploma in Building and Construction alongside extensive trade qualifications, he remains closely involved in the day-to-day running of Sustainabylt and the delivery of its projects. He believes good construction comes down to sound planning, experienced people and doing what you say you’re going to do. Away from the business, Alex is a keen fly fisherman and cattle producer who is just as comfortable chasing trout in a mountain stream as cattle around the paddock.

  • Andy

    Project Director

Andy brings more than 25 years of construction and project management experience, including a Tier 1 contracting background with Lendlease. Throughout his career, prior to and outside his involvement with Sustainabylt, he has worked on major commercial developments, government infrastructure and complex construction projects, including individual projects exceeding $150 million. His extensive experience in procurement, contract management, risk assessment and project governance provides valuable oversight across complex construction projects. Equally comfortable working through contractual matters at boardroom level or resolving challenges with the construction team on site, Andy brings a depth of commercial and technical knowledge to the business.

  • Ron

    Office Manager

Ron brings extensive experience in administration, document control, contract administration and compliance, supporting the day-to-day operations of Sustainabylt. His role includes coordinating project documentation, contractual requirements and communication between the office, project teams and subcontractors. With a methodical approach and a strong eye for detail, Ron helps maintain the administrative and commercial processes that keep projects organized and moving forward.

  • Tarek

    WHS & Compliance Manager

Tarek plays an important role in supporting the day-to-day implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of Sustainabylt’s workplace health and safety systems, including our independently certified ISO management systems. Having worked across a broad range of sectors, he understands the importance of developing practical safety procedures that work in real construction environments. His experience in risk management and regulatory compliance helps ensure our systems are understood, maintained and applied across our projects, rather than simply existing on paper.

  • Cameron

    Site Manager

Having completed his carpentry apprenticeship with Sustainabylt, Cameron has developed an impressive range of practical skills across multiple construction disciplines. He has acted as Leading Hand on numerous commercial projects, combining his carpentry and joinery background with experience in roof plumbing, machinery operation and site coordination. Cameron’s ability to assess construction challenges, think through practical solutions and apply his broad trade knowledge is well beyond his years. His understanding of construction methodology, attention to detail and hands-on leadership make him an integral part of our site delivery team.

  • Tamara

    Operations & Administration Support

With a background in day-to-day farm operations, purchasing, stores and operational support, Tamara brings a practical skill set and a keen eye for detail to Sustainabylt. Her experience includes purchasing and stores-related roles within local government, giving her a sound understanding of procurement, organisation and the importance of keeping day-to-day operations running smoothly. Tamara also takes a genuine interest in the people behind the business, helping coordinate team gatherings, staff functions and the little things that contribute to a positive workplace. She brings a practical, organised approach and a genuine sense of country hospitality to the team.
